We would like to make a couple of clarifications before addressing the details in the discussion. First, we did not state that the tooth tip relief has a negligible influence on the meshing loss but rather the influence is modest, as shown in Fig. 8 of the original paper. The change in meshing loss associated with the tip relief is relatively insignificant as compared to those associated with other parameters such as the gear module and pressure angle. Second, the effects of shortening tooth length (or tip relief) are shown in Fig. 9 in comparison with Fig. 2. The effects are substantially discussed in the paragraph around Fig. 9.
