Abstract
Objections that have been raised against Epstein’s equations of motion for uniform cylindrical shells and the author’s extensions and conclusions from them are considered. A direct proof is offered that the equations must hold, and further reasons are given for believing that they can be used in practice, at least as a basis for obtaining rationally founded approximations.
