Abstract

The design and manufacture of a universal winding and tape laying machine has been developed is presented in this paper. This machine is used to manufacture a multi-direction composite (MDC) flywheel. The machine is capable, due to its modular design, to be used in wet filament and tape laying either with thermoset or thermoplastic prepregs. The MDC flywheel rims are realized by assembling the radial plies with hoop rings in a special assembly mold.
