Abstract

An approach for determining the symbolic expression of the optimum solution for the symbolic design optimization (the problem with symbolic coefficients) based on monotonicity analysis and Groebner bases method is presented in this paper. By this approach, the equivalent system of equality constraint equations for the subproblem derived from monotonicity analysis can be solved directly. Criteria for ordering the variables and terms of the equations are developed based on the features of the equations, thus the “triangularized” Groebner Bases for the subproblems, i.e. the symbolic expression of the optimum solution, can be generated rapidly An example is given demonstrating the strategy and efficiency of the approach.
