The newly created Department of Mechanical Engineering at SUNY Korea (State University of New York in South Korea) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Design and Manufacturing with emphasis on Dynamics and Control. SUNY Korea is located in Incheon Free Trade Zone (IFEZ) in Song-do, South Korea, about 1 hour from Seoul and about 30 minutes by car from the Incheon International Airport.

The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely-related field. Research focus in experimental work is particularly sought. The University of Maine invites applications for the Presidential Professor in Ocean Engineering and Energy. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in mechanical, ocean, naval or civil engineering, or a closely related field. This tenure-track position is expected to be filled at the rank of associate or full professor depending on qualifications.

The successful candidate must have expertise in design and modeling of structures in the ocean environment, including fluid-structure interaction as well as coupled aeroelastic and hydrodynamic models for offshore wind and other floating ocean structures. Experience in the basin physical testing of floating devices subjected to wind and wave simulating offshore conditions is also required. The candidate must be a research leader and have demonstrated ability to lead a team and to secure and manage large research projects.

UMaine has extraordinary research infrastructure including the Alfond W2 Ocean Engineering Laboratory, a wind-wave simulation basin which features a unique rotatable high-performance wind machine over a multidirectional wave basin. In 2013, UMaine designed, constructed and deployed the first grid-connected floating offshore wind turbine in the US, and is now leading US efforts to deploy two 6 MW floating turbines 14 miles off the Maine coast, funded in part through a $40-million US Dept of Energy grant.

We are seeking a motivated individual with demonstrated experience and skills in mechanical design, prototyping, and system integration. The faculty candidate will be expected to teach capstone design as well as typical mechanical engineering courses and conduct research in the candidate's specialty areas. A Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a related discipline is required, industry experience throughout the product development cycle a plus.

It's anticipated that these faculty members will work within engineering and across campus to build faculty/student collaborations and promote interdisciplinary strength related to design thinking. They will also create and develop courses that provide students with opportunities to practice authentic design including developing empathy, identifying user needs, defining design challenges, ideating, prototyping, implementation and testing.

We prefer hiring at the assistant professor level, although other academic ranks, including professors of practice, will be considered. We anticipate a start in the fall of 2018.
